Company profile

The manual describes Hande as an independent innovative enterprise in electrical drive control and industrial electrical automation, and it dates the start of the business to 2007. The profile lands on drilling-rig electrical control and automation: the business has expanded to China's major oil fields and to more than 30 countries and regions, naming Russia, Iran, the United Arab Emirates, and Saudi Arabia. The same page calls Hande a leading manufacturer of drilling-rig electrical and automation control systems in China, and states that it has occupied over 60% of Sinopec's market share. That figure is what the manual prints. It is not a sole-supply claim.

Main products

The manual lists the main products as electric drive control systems of the drilling rig, power supply control systems of the drilling rig, the automated drilling control system, drilling-rig AC and DC motors, and electric-drive fracturing equipment.

A drilling electrical chain, as the manual draws it, runs from the power supply control system and the generator set through VFD or SCR control and the driller's control room, then to the top-drive control system, the AC and DC motors, and the mud pump, rotary table, drawworks, and top drive on the rig.

The caption for China's largest shale oil demonstration wellsite places the power supply control system, SCR and VFD, the automated drilling-rig control system, and DC and AC motors on the same spread. The aerial photograph is on the drilling rig electric drive product page.

Electric drive and control of the drilling rig

The electric drive and control system of an electric drilling rig includes the power management system, the drive system, the MCC system, and the control system. The product scope is DC control, VFD control, mud-pump control, and top-drive control. This is the first of the seven business areas. The overview is on drilling rig electric drive.

Power management is written as a VFD supply formed by diesel generator sets or a high-voltage grid. The drive system is DC or AC drive and control for mud pumps, drawworks, the rotary table, the top drive, and other main equipment. The MCC covers auxiliary motors, lighting, and power for the areas of the wellsite. Control includes the PLC, the industrial computer, and the HMI.

The SCR systems for rigs with drilling depths from 4,000 to 9,000 meters are described as produced with Hande's own research and development. The system includes power management, an SCR control unit, a driller's console, and electromagnetic brake control. The printed features are redundancy, strong overload capacity, high integration, strong anti-interference ability, high reliability, and easy operation and maintenance. The main equipment of the diesel-generator management system sits in the generator cabinet, which the manual describes as easy to operate and maintain. The AC control module is written as the core of diesel-generator control, for the CAT3512A and 3512B series or other brands of diesel engine. The DC module in the same system is written as the core of SCR firing and of speed and torque control for the drawworks, mud pumps, rotary table, or top drive, including stepless speed regulation and load sharing between two motors on one shaft. Speed regulators for the drilling functions are interlocked with the assigned contactors. The manual names these modules ROSS HILL 1400. Those sentences describe modules inside the system. They do not change the name of this site. Regulation rates, the temperature range, and the current threshold are not repeated here. See SCR control.

The VFD system is a multi-drive variable-frequency speed-control system. The manual states that VFD systems for rigs with drilling depths from 3,000 to 12,000 meters are developed and produced, using fully digital vector-control voltage-type AC variable-frequency devices, with V/F characteristic curves and field-oriented vector control. The PLC uses PRONET fieldbus communication for control, monitoring, and fault diagnosis. The printed features are high-performance speed control, small starting current, high operating efficiency, strong overload capacity, feedback braking, convenient use, low noise, and easy maintenance. The configuration table is on VFD control.

Mud pump control is written as suitable for F-series, 3NB-series, and five-cylinder pumps, covering the three-cylinder and five-cylinder pumps in that market. The system includes an incoming-line cabinet, a rectifier cabinet, an inverter cabinet, a comprehensive control cabinet, a transformer, the driller's operation control, and the MCC.

Top drive control is vector control and stepless speed regulation of the top-drive main shaft. It is written as a fully digital system with networking, information handling, hardware and software standardization, and modular construction, to raise performance and reliability and to lower the maintenance workload. The system includes an incoming-line cabinet, a frequency-inverter cabinet, and a PLC cabinet.

Electric drive and control of the workover rig

Electric drive and control of the workover rig is the second business area. The rating table is on workover rig electric drive. A workover rig is not described here as a drilling rig.

Power supply control of the drilling rig

The power supply system replaces diesel-generator power and uses the industrial grid directly as the source. The manual describes that change as leading petroleum drilling in China into energy-saving, environmentally minded, and efficient operations. The product scope has three items: a grid high-voltage room that brings industrial-grid power onto the rig; an SVG device for reactive-power compensation and harmonic suppression; and a TSF device with the same duty. Compensation ratings and harmonic tables are not printed. The manual does not give a fuel-use percentage, and this page does not add one. See power supply control and SVG and TSF.

Motors for the drilling rig

The fourth business area is the drilling-rig motor. The product scope is the DC motor, the AC motor, the direct-drive motor, and the permanent-magnet motor.

DC motors are high-power, high-torque drive motors designed for the DC electric drilling rig, for the drawworks, mud pumps, and rotary table. The manual names series-excited and separately excited types. The printed features are compact size, high speed, high starting torque, voltage regulation for speed control, and a wide applicable voltage range.

The AC variable-frequency motor is written together with Hande's digital vector variable-frequency control, for full-process automation. The named features are speed-control performance, high output torque, low starting current, strong overload capacity, compact size, high efficiency, and straightforward installation, commissioning, and maintenance.

Direct-drive motors are in the product scope. The permanent-magnet motor uses the permanent magnet as the excitation source; the manual describes a simple structure, high power density, and high efficiency. Drawworks, mud pumps, the rotary table, and, where the manual says so, the fracturing pump, are the loads these motors are written for.

Model, kilowatt, voltage, and speed tables are on drilling motors.

Electrified retrofit of the mechanical drilling rig

The fifth area is electrified retrofit and service for the mechanical drilling rig. Mechanical rigs adopt electric drive instead of diesel-engine drive, to raise efficiency and reliability, reduce drilling cost, and reduce pollution. The manual places this retrofit on rigs such as the 40LDB, 50LDB, and 70LDB.

The system comprises a high-voltage incoming-line cabinet, a transformer, a frequency inverter, 400 V switchgear, 600 V switchgear, a PLC cabinet, a remote driller's console, and other equipment. The printed features are a configuration matched to equipment already on the rig, variable-frequency motor drive with little effect on the grid and a wide speed range, remote diagnosis of on-site faults, and remote monitoring of operating parameters.

The sizing table is on electrified retrofit. Case captions in the manual include an electrification retrofit in Indonesia and an electrification retrofit of a mechanical rig for Sinopec.

Automated drilling control

The sixth area is the automated drilling-rig control system. The product scope is integrated control, integrated instruments, video surveillance, and the driller's control room.

The control room consists of a positive-pressure explosion-proof cabin, two sets of integrated seats, a PLC cabinet, a positive-pressure explosion-proof system, explosion-proof air conditioning, and CCTV. The manual states that hydraulic and pneumatic controls on the rig are replaced with electronic control. Winch control moves to a joystick. The rotary table, the mud pump, and other equipment move to touchscreens in the integrated seats, described as a simple and direct way to operate. The interface is graphical, and the operations are organized by process.

Integrated display and control covers electrical-control parameters, drilling-parameter measurement, travelling-block collision prevention and the related interlocks, travelling-block speed and winch control, derrick lifting control and protection, tension warning and protection, top-drive collision and scratch prevention, and warning and protection for other equipment. Data for automated floor equipment is in the same display: the power catwalk, the drill-floor manipulator, power slips, the iron roughneck, the hydraulic cathead, and the second-floor platform manipulator. CCTV is written into the system. The electrical control system and the integrated seats are described as two communication systems that are compatible, interchangeable, and backups for each other.

Integrated instruments acquire, display, analyze, and store drilling data at the wellsite, and the driller works through the touchscreen. Parameters can be shown as numbers, graphics, or instrument faces. A database stores the data. A local network can carry it between remote terminals at the wellsite and the drilling console. See automated drilling control.

Electric-drive fracturing equipment

The seventh area is electric-drive fracturing equipment. The manual states that, from work in electrical transmission and automation control in the oil industry, Hande integrates power management, electrical control, motors, and fracturing pumps into one set of electric-drive fracturing equipment. The named advantages are independent research and development, integrated production, strong adaptability, one-stop service, and cost-effectiveness. The HDYL parameter table is on electric-drive fracturing.
